Course overview
The estimated smart cities market size for the U.S. in 2021.
Globe Newswire (Jul, 2021).
“[N]ew ventures launched by people dedicated to scalable creative ideas will have an important impact in cities and the built environment around the world.” – Gilad Rosenzweig, Executive Director, MITdesignX
Duration: 8 weeks (excluding orientation)
Throughout the course of time, our constructed environment — the spaces that we, as humans, have built to inhabit and conduct our daily lives in — has undergone a gradual evolution. However, this transformation has not come without its shortcomings, resulting in various challenges for present-day urban settings. In the online short course entitled Entrepreneurship in Architecture, Planning and Real Estate, you will discover how to recognize, evaluate, and address these gaps utilizing a design-centred approach.
Using the value iteration method as its central framework, this program allows you to devise your own response to an urban issue and explore the launch of a new venture through this perspective. Additionally, you will gain valuable insights from experts at MITdesignX, a campus-based venture accelerator housed within the MIT School of Architecture and Planning (MIT SA+P), and develop a comprehensive action plan to effectively translate your business solution into reality.
Is this course for you?
The primary objective of this program is to equip individuals with entrepreneurial skills that are specific to the urban and built environment. This initiative aims to benefit entrepreneurs who are already established in the built environment and are seeking new skills or opportunities to enhance their current or prospective businesses. It will also be advantageous to professionals who work in the built environment but have not yet ventured into entrepreneurship. By participating in this program, these individuals will acquire knowledge on how to launch a venture in a familiar environment, which will enable them to expand their expertise into new areas. Moreover, entrepreneurs who lack experience in the built environment will gain valuable insights into this sector and explore the potential benefits offered by this emerging market.
